AC Milan signed former Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, 34, as a free agent last January as a cheap, experienced option at forward for the second part of the season, but age and injuries took a toll on the former croatian international, who appeared in just 9 games so far for Stefano Pioli's side and did not score a single goal.

With the season coming to an end, according to Corriere della Sera Paolo Maldini and club management already decided to move on from Mandzukic, looking to upgrade the position with a younger player to pair with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who, to be fair, is having his owns struggles with age and injuries. So far, rumors have AC Milan interested in Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic and PSG's Mauro Icardi, and club management might pull the trigger, one way or the other, once a Uefa Champions League spot is secured for next season.

The contract signed by Mandzukic had a renewal option, but the club decided not to pick up such option so Mandzukic will once again be a free agent in a matter of weeks.
