2017 AFCON: Rwanda FA chief Nzamwita confident of win over Ghana on Saturday
The president of Rwanda Football Association (RFA) Vincent Nzamwita says his side will defeat Ghana in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday thanks to their excellent preparation.
The Black Stars travel to Kigali to face the Wasps in their Group H qualifier in Kigali on Saturday.
The last time the two sides met in Kigali in 2003, Rwanda triumphed 1-0 over Ghana which prevented the Black Stars from qualifying for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
Despite his excellent relationship with Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, Nzamwita is confident his side will win over the Black Stars again claiming they have prepared extremely well.
‘’We’re preparing our team as we do for every game. We usually prepare as every team wants to win a game, especially when you play against a friend or a brother, (Kwesi) Nyantakyi is my brother. It should be a good game. So we are preparing as much as we can,’’ Nzamwita said.
‘’I can’t say we will demolish Ghana. It’s a football game. We went to Mozambique to secure a 1-0 win. We are preparing to have a good game. We are preparing for a win. We need to win this game.
‘’If you want to talk about motivation, I think that every team has its way of motivating players. We don’t put in much money. We make the players know that they are playing for their country. Rwandese love their country, so I think it’s the best motivation we can make on our side.”
Ghana is tied on three points with Rwanda in Group H thanks to their opening wins in the group but the Black Stars lead because of their better goal scoring record in the qualifiers.
Ghana trounced Mauritius 7-1 in the first round of matches, while Rwanda recorded a 1-0 victory over Mozambique.
The two teams met for the last time in 2003 when the two were in the same group for the AFCON 2004 qualifiers.
The Black Stars thrashed Rwanda 4-1 in the first leg in Accra but suffered a slender 1-0 defeat in the second leg under the tutelage of Serbian trainer, Ratomir Dujkovic.
