2017 AFCON: Few surprises expected in Ghana's squad for Mauritius qualifier
Black Stars coach Avram Grant is expected to name his squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius this week with few surprises, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.
The Israeli trainer is expected to maintain the core of the players who played at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah will return to the squad while Abdul Majeed Waris is also likely to be included after recovering from injury.
However, Maritzburg United defender John Pantsil who was rumoured to be inching closer to a return is unlikely to be given a place in the team as the coach plots the future with young players.
Captain Asamoah Gyan as well as regulars Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman and Christian Atsu are expected to make the squad.
Also expected to make the cut include goalkeepers Fatau Dauda, Razak Brimah and Stephen Adams with Denmark-based Daniel Amartey as well as Kwesi Appiah all expected to make the squad.
There are strong cases for Middlesbrough winger Albert Adomah as well as Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Athletico Madrid youngster Thomas Partey.
It’s likely American-based goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey will not accept an invitation into the team.
Grant has enjoyed a period of stability since he took over from Kwesi Appiah after the country’s wrecked 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil.
