2017 AFCON: David Accam a major doubt for Mauritius clash as his club is yet to receive official notice of his call-up
David Accam is a major doubt for Ghana’s 2017 AFCON qualifier against Mauritius after Chicago Fire coach Frank Yallop revealed no official invitation has been sent by the Ghana FA for the services of the striker.
This comes just days after the 24-year-old was named in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the game against Mauritius on June 14.
The GFA are obligated to send official notice to the clubs of Ghanaian players intended to be used by the Black Stars for official matches.
It is upon this official request that clubs release their players for international assignments.
But Chicago Fire coach Frank Yallop insists no official notice has been served over the call up of David Accam – raising doubts over his availability for the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Mauritius.
“We’ve heard nothing from Ghana officially,” Yallop confirmed.
“I guess that’s a no, unless they decide to send him [a late invite].”
Accam is since yet to report to the Black Stars camp for the non-residential preparations ahead of the game
His possible absence could be linked to the reason why Abdul Majeed Waris trained with the Black Stars on Thursday despite not being named in the official squad released by the GFA.
