Ghana U20 assistant coach Yaw Preko has lauded the side for their opening draw with Austria at the World Cup – insisting the result was secured under ‘difficult conditions’.

The Black Satellites needed a late penalty kick to rescue themselves from an opening defeat to Austria at the World Cup which commenced over the weekend in New Zealand.

The result now leaves Sellas Tetteh’s side in desperate need of a win in their second group game against tournament favourites Argentina.

Many have slammed the performance of the Black Satellites in their opening match.

But assistant coach Yaw Preko believes the team fought well to secure an important point under very difficult circumstances.

“I think the team did very well considering the difficult conditions we played under,” he said.

“It was very cold and it was raining as well. The players really struggled to cope with the weather but in the end fought to secure a point.

“The chills on the day has never been experienced before by this team.

“I believe they deserve to be commended for the courage they showed in the difficult circumstances they found themselves.

“We could have lost the game but they fought hard to rescue a point.”

Ghana will be looking for an improved performance and most importantly a win over tournament favourites Argentina on Tuesday morning.
