Lamine Yamal has defended himself and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe after the two players were criticised for speaking openly about their Ballon d’Or hopes.

The Barcelona winger said: “Mbappe and I are criticised for being honest.”
Both players have regularly discussed the award in interviews and have made no secret of their belief that they should be considered among the leading candidates.

The Ballon d’Or will be presented at a ceremony in London on 26 October, with Yamal and Mbappe regarded as two of the favourites to win the prize.
