The Women’s League Board and Black Queens Management Committee Chairperson Madam Leanier Addy has lauded the plan by the President of the Ghana Football Association Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi to begin the LIVE YOUR GOAL project as part of ongoing efforts to expand interest and participation in women football as well as developing the footballing skills of girls from a young age.
Speaking to Ghanafa.org Madam Leanier Addy explained that the LIVE YOUR GOAL PROJECT was an initiative from FIFA aimed at helping young girls live their dreams of becoming footballers and achieving their goals not only as footballers but also educating themselves to the highest level.
The initiative, which will be held on 4th and 5th September in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service was launched in May.
“I believe when the LIVE YOUR GOAL PROJECT starts in September this year, we will know what exactly the President has in mind for us.There is a collaboration with GES which is an affiliate body of the FA and they are going to provide pupils for this program. There will also be ambassadors for this program to tell us about their experiences and benefits they have had from women football,” said Leanier Addy.
Madam Addy stated that this project must be embraced by all and added that it is going to give girls the opportunity to play football at the highest level, educate themselves, get involved in football administration as well as practice whatever profession they might want to pursue in the sport.
Madam Addy described the President’s effort in Women’s football as commendable and says the President is keen on expanding interest in women’s football by building the capacity of women coaches as well as women physios, administrators and referees in other to get more women inclusion in women football.
The Women's League Board Chairperson also threw more light on the President’s acceptance speech at the just ended Ghana Football Association elections at Tamale where he announced his plans for women's football in the coming years.
“You would realize that with the National teams most of the technical team and supporting team are male but the president is interested in including more women in the back room staff of the National women’s team. His speech talks about building capacity for more women in the areas of coaching, physiotherapy as well as refereeing to get more women involvement in women’s football”, the only female Executive Committee member intimated.
Madam Leanier Addy urged all stakeholders especially the government, corparate bodies as well as the media to help raise Women’s Football to its deserved place.
GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi noted in his acceptance speech delivered after re-election in Tamale last Tuesday that, “plans are underway to expand the interest and participation rate in women’s football as well as to develop the footballing skills of girls at a young age through the LIVE YOUR GOALS CAMPAIGN.”
