Kuala Lumpur: With less than two months until the final draw for the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the-AFC.com keeps track of the latest international action involving Asia’s women’s national teams.
United States 3 (Ertz 24’, Morgan 40’, Rapinoe 52’ p)
Korea Republic 1 (Han 45+5’)
The world champions continued their all-time unbeaten record against Korea Republic with a 3-1 victory in New Orleans, with Han Chae-rin (pictured below) scoring on debut for Yoon Duk-yeo’s side on Thursday.
A diving header from Julie Ertz gave the Americans the lead from a Alex Morgan corner kick, before Morgan herself added a second – and the 78th of her international career – five minutes before halftime.
U-20 Women’s World Cup graduate Han made it a debut to remember when she pulled a goal back in first half injury-time, but a second-half penalty from Megan Rapinoe secured a fifth successive international win for Jill Ellis’ team.
Asia’a fifth-ranked women’s national team will have another chance to break their duck against the US, when the teams meet again in North Carolina on Sunday.
China PR 1 (Wang Shanshan 72’)
DPR Korea 2 (Kim Phyong-hwa 4’, Kim Yun-mi 67’)
AFC Women’s Asian Cup-bound China PR suffered a second home defeat to DPR Korea in four months, as an early goal gave the visitors a lead they never surrendered in the CFA International Women’s Football Tournament opener in Chongqing.
Kim Phyong-hwa had Kim Kwang-min’s side in front within four minutes at the Yongchuan Sports Centre Stadium, before Kim Yun-mi picked up from where she left off in Women’s Asian Cup qualifying to make it 2-0 in the second half.
Wang Shanshan revived China’s hopes shortly after, but DPR Korea ultimately prevailed to back up their 1-0 win over the Steel Roses in Duyun in June.
DPR’s next opponents are Brazil – who recovered from three consecutive losses against Australia to earn a 3-0 win over Mexico – while China will look to bounce back against El Tri.
Jordan 0
OM Féminine 1 (Lozé 86’)
Jordan continued preparations for their home Women’s Asian Cup, meeting French Division 1 Féminine side Olympique de Marseille in Aqaba.
A late goal from former French youth international Charlotte Lozé settled the match in favour of the visitors, who currently sit ninth in the French top-flight, as the Jordanians remained competitive with their European opponents.
Jordan’s defeat follows on from last month’s 2-1 win over Latvia in Riga, in what was the nation’s first ever on European soil at full international level.
