Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he is not expecting his side to produce their best performance in the Community Shield on Sunday but the win is all that matters.
The Reds will head to Wembley to face Manchester City in the traditional curtain-raiser for the season, on the back of losing to Napoli 3-0 their pre-season friendly in Edinburgh.
Klopp has been forced to do without some key players through pre-season as they were rested or played in the African Cup of Nations.
With Sunday's trip to Wembley edging closer, Klopp is adamant the win in the competition is all that matters and performance can be worried about down the line.
"I don't think we can expect to play our best game of the season on Sunday, that's how it is with the pre-season we've had and the long season after it," he said.
"But it's not about that, it's about winning a football game, and we'll try to do that. There are different ways to do that and hopefully we'll find that."
Liverpool are 23/10, 5/2 to draw and 11/10 to lose at the hands of Manchester City this weekend.
