Francesco Totti has admitted leaving Roma after 30 years is "like dying" after the club icon resigned from his director position at the Serie A outfit.
The former Italy striker spent his whole career with the Giallrossi before hanging up his boots in July 2017.
Having felt excluded by the decision-making process, Totti has decided to resign from his position at the Stadio Olimpico.
The 42-year-old has admitted it is one of the toughest decisions of his life and he’s devastated that things did not work out with his off-field role.
"I resign as a Roma executive," said the Italian forward, speaking at a news conference. "I was hoping that this day never came, instead this ugly and heavy day has arrived.
"I never had the chance to work on the technical area with Roma."
He added: "This is far worse than retiring as a player. Leaving Roma is like dying. I feel like it'd be better if I died."
Roma are 40/1 to win the Serie A title next season, while the reigning champions Juventus are 4/6 to retain the Italian crown once again.
