Bayer Leverkusen's forward, Victor Boniface, opened up about the challenges of being sidelined due to injury, expressing his gratitude for the support he received during his recovery, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Boniface has been sidelined since undergoing surgery for an adductor injury in January.

The Nigeria international has worked his way back to full fitness in recent weeks.

Returning to the pitch in Bayer Leverkusen’s DFB Pokal victory against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Wednesday night, Boniface shared his reflections on his time away from the game.

“To be honest, it was very difficult, you know. I got injured in preparations to represent my country and the timing was bad because Leverkusen really needed me, but I had my teammates, I had the coach, and everyone in the club was there for me, so it was good,” the striker told the club’s official website.

Boniface's comeback is a huge boost for Leverkusen in such a crucial part of the season, three months after he picked up an abductor injury while on pre-AFCON 2023 duty for Nigeria.
