Super Eagles Training Boycott: "The timing of the strike was wrong", Eguavoen says to players
Nigeria's former international, Austin Eguavoen, has stated that the Super Eagles' boycott of the training ahead of their World Cup Playoff came at the wrong time, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Eguavoen, who is also the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Adviser, disclosed this following the players' action over unpaid bonuses.
The former Super Eagles Coach opined that, as genuine as their reasons may be, the timing of the action made the action insensitive, especially as they play Gabon on Thursday.
“The timing of the strike was wrong. They might have had their reasons, but the timing was not the best. Having said that, I have faith in them to rise up to the occasion and do the business on Thursday, and afterwards, on Sunday.”
The players and officials of the national team refused to train on Tuesday over unpaid bonuses reported to have spanned a long period of time.
The issue has now been resolved, as the team trained on Wednesday ahead of their make-or-break encounter with the Gabonese in Rabat, Morocco.
