Sunshine Stars beat champions Rangers, Bayelsa pip Plateau as El-Kanemi, Heartland share spoils

Four draws and six victories were recorded over the weekend as the Nigeria Premier Football League enters its matchday six, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

Enyimba held Shooting Stars to a goalless draw at the Adamasingba stadium in Ibadan on Sunday evening to wrap up the round six fixtures of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier League season.

Despite the dominance of the host, Enyimba held their grounds to secure a point from their first journey of the season to the Southwestern region.

Still in the Southwest, Sunshine Stars of Akure, Remo Stars of Ikenne, and Ikorodu City of Lagos all recorded wins in their matchday six fixtures played at home. In Akure, Sunshine Stars defeated Rangers by a lone goal. Stephen Chukwude scored the sole goal of the encounter played in Ijebu Ode in the 44th minute of the encounter.

Remo Stars returned to winning ways against Nasarawa United, smashing 3 goals past the North Central team with Sikiru Alimi (51'), Stanley Joseph (59'), and Sodiq Ismail (62') all scoring for the Sky Blues.

It was a morale-boosting performance for Ikorodu City in Lagios as they recorded their first-ever top-flight win. It was a great scene at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena as Rivio Anyemwenre (48'), Kelechi Onwe (55'), and Toyeeb Ajeyigbe (73') all recorded their names in gold for the Lagos-based team.

Ibrahim Yahaya's goal in the 4th minute was enough for Bayelsa United to record their first win of the campaign.  It was a sigh of relief for Ladan Bosso's team who have started the season sloppy.

Daniel Amokachi started his reign in Lobi Stars with a draw away at Niger Tornadoes. It was a fair start to life in the NPFL for the former Nigeria International who took over the helm of affairs in the Benue club last week. Osy Matins scored the first goal of the encounter for Lobi Stars in the 61st minute before Ayodele secured a point for Niger Tornadoes a minute from time.

Rivers United played out a goalless draw in Kastina with Kastina United to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 NPFL season. Finidi George-led side has won 4 of their 6 games played so far, with the other 2 ending in a draw.
