Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola believes in-form ace Raheem Sterling can become a major success as a central striker.

Twenty-four-year-old England international Sterling opened his season with a goal against Liverpool in the Community Shield, before completing a hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of West Ham which started the Citizens' Premier League title defence.

He is in his first days playing as a striker, but for me striker will be an incredible position for him.

And Guardiola was delighted with the performance of his versatile forward, who the Spaniard believes has the qualities needed to play anywhere across the City frontline.

He told reporters: "I know the special qualities of the player, the consistency, physicality, the finishing.

"For the second goal against West Ham the control was not good but the finish good, the third goal was really good.

"He is in his first days playing as a striker, but for me striker will be an incredible position for him - he can play in three positions up front."

"In the first half he played in the level we played in as a team and then the second half he played the level the team played.

"They are incredibly talented players but they need the group. When the team goes forward and makes that step, he plays better."

City are back in action next Saturday when they face a big test by playing host to Tottenham Hotspur, who they have beaten five times in their last six meetings.

The Citizens are 1/3 to secure all three points next weekend, while they are 2/5 to win a third consecutive Premier League title.
