With the game heading for extra-time after six minutes of added time, the South Africans were awarded a penalty for a foul on a Banyana Banyana player after long consultation with VAR.

And Linda Motlhalo converted the spot kick to send the South Africans to their fifth WAFCON in final appearance.

It is now back-to-back final appearance for Banyana Banyana, who lost 4-3 to the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the 2018 edition.

They will now wait for the winner of the second semi-final between hosts Morocco and Nigeria.

Both Morocco and Nigeria will be meeting for the third time in the WAFCON, with the Falcons winning the previous two clashes 8-0 and 6-0 in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

All the semi-finalists have automatically qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women‘s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
