Roma defender Chris Smalling has reportedly suffered a thigh injury in training and risks missing the first games of the new campaign, according to Il Tempo. The Giallorossi are set to debut in the UEFA Conference League against Trabzonspor on Thursday, but might have to cope without the former Manchester United centre-back.
Smalling, who signed a three-year deal with Roma ahead of 2020-21, after a successful stint on loan in 2019-20, has struggled with a series of injuries since making his move permanent. The 31-year-old seems set to miss the first game against the Turkish side and risks being out against Fiorentina when Serie A 2021-22 starts this weekend too.
