Roma will attempt to coax Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain to the capital with the promise of the captain’s armband according to reports.

The Argentine is said to be Giallorossi’s number one target this summer, though they face competition from the likes of Premier League side West Ham United who are also looking to secure the signature of the striker.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are hoping the offer of the captaincy, which was vacated by departing legend Daniele De Rossi, will be enough to tip the scales in their favour.

Higuain spent the first half of last season on loan at AC Milan, but his spell at the Rossoneri wasn’t as successful as people had hoped and he was shipped out to Premier League side Chelsea in January.

Again, the Argentine didn’t quite hit the heights expected of him and Chelsea decided against making the signing permanent at the end of the season.

There was speculation when Maurizio Sarri was initially appointed as coach of Juventus that he would be willing to give Higuain a chance, but it now looks as if he will almost certainly depart this summer.
