Taiwo Awoniyi was among names pencilled down by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria for their friendly game against recently crowned Europa League champions Atletico Madrid.

The Liverpool forward who spent last season on loan to Belgium side Mouscron, where he scored ten goals caught the attention of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.

Rohr was impressed with his goal tally for a modest side like Mouscron and planned to assess him at close quarters as he is convinced he could be a part of the Super Eagles after the World Cup.

However the 20 year old who will get married next month picked up an injury which brought his season to a premature end and that same injury was the reason why he wasn’t listed in the squad for the Atletico Madrid friendly game.

Nigeria will take on the LaLiga side on the 22nd of April at the Godswill stadium in Uyo and the list for the game was released earlier and as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com it was a combination of home based players and foreign based players.
