After being denied bail on Monday, Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy will stay in jail.

The trial date for the French international is set on January 24. Four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault have been filed against him.

Mendy's bail application has been refused three times since he was brought into prison on Aug. 26.

The rape allegations stem from an alleged event at Mendy's house in October 2020 and a further incident in August 2021. The alleged encounter in January 2021 is the basis for the sexual assault accusation.

In connection with the Mendy investigation, police detained and charged a second guy with rape. He was later released on bail.

Mendy joined Manchester City for a reported £52 million deal from AS Monaco in 2017.
