A French full-side national team player from 2011 to 2015 (27 caps, 2 goals), right-back and midfielder Mathieu Debuchy, who's turning 36 on July 28, is going to leave Saint-Etienne, once current season's over. Ligue 1 side boss, Claude Puel, explained: "It's never easy to make such a decision. Anyway, we are not going to extend our ongoing contract with Debuchy. A great captain, who set a wonderful example for younger players here, and managed to establish himself as a leader for Saint-Etienne".

Playing for Les Verts since February 2018, Debuchy, viable also as a wide midfielder, a wingback, a winger, and a deep-lying playmaker, used to play also for Arsenal, Girondins de Bordeaux, Newcastle, and Lille.
