Obi May Face Prolonged Injury Layoff, Undergoes More Tests

Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Obi, will go for further tests on his anterior hip muscle next week, and will likely face a prolonged layoff as the Serie A side works harder at restoring his full fitness.

Obi who will sit out of Torino’s Serie A home clash against Lazio on Sunday is currently undergoing therapy and could spend more time on the sidelines.

The Nigeria international missed Torino’s 2-1 away defeat to Atalanta last weekend.

Italian website, toro.it reported on Friday that Torino were still monitoring the fitness conditions of Obi and Antonio Barreca, an Italy U-21 defender. Both players were expected to undergo fresh medical tests because their therapy sessions on Thursday confirmed that they were not close to full recovery.

Obi, 26, has made 22 Serie A appearances and has scored five goals and provided two goal assists.

Torino occupy 10th position in the Italian Series A table with 47 points from 34 games. There are four games left to play
