The Technical Adviser of Gombe United FC, Aliyu Zubairu said they're going for the maximum points against their hosts Nasarawa United.
Speaking after their hard fought 1-0 victory over their perennial rivals - Elkanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri in the NPFL23 match day 13 fixture at the Pantami stadium, Gombe,the Savannah Scorpions gaffer confidently said the Solid Minners are beatable.
"I can tell you that we've a squad capable of winning away from home; our performances in away fixtures wasn't that bad - so far,we have recorded four draws out of six."
"The officiating in the league has improved tremendously, and if that will continue,i'm very optimistic that before the season wraps up, we'll get a win on the road, and our mission remained the same against Nasarawa United."
Aliyu Zubairu explained that with five matches remaining,the Savannah Scorpions are still in contention as long as they will pick away points.
On the outcome of their match in the northeast derby, Zubairu said he was happy with the victory, because Elkanemi Warriors came into the match with a mission to pick a point, having won their match day 12 away fixture, but they made a solid and determined side.
According to him the new tactician of the Maiduguri based NPFL side has turned around the squad, he just came in and brought some fresh legs and they're gelling now.
Gombe United's only goal came in the 9th minutes when Anayo Ogbonna confidently and calmly converted a spot kick awarded after Hassan Abubakar hacked down Umar Ahmed inside their box.
There were moments of anxiety as both sides missed a 'sitter' as the match reached it climax, but the scoreline remained unchanged as neither the hosts increase their tally nor the visitors equalize, as the central referee Mohammed Zakari from Niger state signaled the end of the match after the expiration of the additional two minutes.
Gombe United's next fixture is away to Nasarawa United on Sunday 16th April, 2023.
