Enyimba Football Club of Aba got their first big win of the season in their last home game as they defeated Gombe United in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
It was a rampaging performance for the People's Elephant who put the Savannah Scorpions to the sword by five goals to nil at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
League top scorer, Chukwuemeka Obioma scored his first hattrick of the season with two goals from Ikenna Coper and Sadiq Abubakar.
It was Obioma who kicked off action with the first attempt of the game, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper in the 3rd minute.
He however got on the score sheet in the 18th minute as he beat the goalkeeper to score 12th goal of the season after receiving a pass from Chijioke Mbaoma.
Ekwutoziam could have made it two in the 24th minute, but the rebound went wide after Abubakar's strike was punched out by the keeper.
Six minutes later, it was Obioma who almost scored his second, but his header went wide.
No mistake this time, as Ikenna Copper doubled the lead after a good exchange of passes between him and Emeka Obioma saw him face to face with the net for his first goal of the season.
The host went into the dressing room with a comfortable 2-0 lead at half time.
In the second half, it was the Aba Landlords with the ascendency to add to the goal margin.
Sadiq Aboubakar made it 3-0 after he caught the goalkeeper out of his goal and lobs into an empty net in 65th minut, 2 minutes after Nwaiwu replaced Ekwutoziam in an injury forced change.
In 71st minute, the centre called for a penalty after Obioma shot was blocked with arm which he stepped up to score his second of the game and Enyimba's fourth minutes later.
Obioma scored his 14th and the fifth goal for the league giants in the 82nd to round off a comprehensive victory for Enyimba.
The win keeps Enyimba second on the league group A log behind Bendel Insurance with 31 points as they play Shooting Stars in their last match of the regular season next.
