A brace from Deputy Echeta was enough for the Pride of Rivers to emerge victorious in the tie against the reigning champions.

Echeta opened score in the 12th minute after converting Sadiq Abubakar's assist to make it 1-0 as a first half dominated by the hosts ended in win for Rivers United.

Rivers United doubled the lead through Echeta at the start of the second half capitalizing on a poor marking by Enyimba's defense a minute into the half.

Enyimba who had drawn a save from goalkeeper Akande and had a ball hit the bar at the end of the first half intensified momentum with the introduction of Ekene Awazie and Joseph Atule after conceding the second goal.

Atule, in the 66th minute hit an effort that ricocheted the woodwork before Awazie's effort was saved 7 minutes later.

Atule came close to reducing the deficit in the 78th minute, but Akande kept his cool to save the day for the host once again.
