NPFL: Bayelsa United halt Lobi's quest for top as Akwa United get maximum points in Jos
The match day 26 round of matches of the Nigeria Premier Football League ended with league leaders, Lobi Stars dropping to second after Bayelsa United held them to a goalless draw while Akwa United helped their fight against relegation with an away win over Plateau United in Jos, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Lobi Stars were held by relegated battlers, Bayelsa United 1-1 at the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa while Akwa United beat title contenders, Plateau United 1-2 at the at the New Jos Stadium.
After a goalless affair in the first half, it took Lobi Stars an hour to open score in front of their home crowd by Sunday Chinedu.
However, Kehinde Lawal restored parity for the Prosperity Boys on 79 minute as score remained like that till the end of the encounter.
Akwa United ran out winners in Jos after defender Gerome Heutchou headed in David Philip's delivery from a corner kick on 10 minute.
Sunday Anthony restored parity for Plateau United on 75 minute from the penalty spot, before Sani Suleiman brought the visitors back to the lead on 90 minute after converting a penalty.
Meanwhile, Katsina United came from behind to beat Abia Warriors 2-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Daniel Wotlai had put the visitors ahead on 8 minutes before Andrew Idoko equalised on 49 minute. Azeez Falolu scored 10 later to complete the comeback.
