The teenage midfielder who was courted by Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger during the January transfer window is understood to have signed the deal worth around £3 million recently, but the agreement was not announced until now. Nwakali was named player of the tournament at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Chile last year and attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham United while his representatives are understood to have turned down approaches from Sporting Lisbon, Olympiakos and Udinese. Nwakali, however, has said that is was always his 'dream' to play for Wenger's side.
“So many teams were interested in me but it has been my dream at a tender age to play for Arsenal.”
The 17-year-old will make the move to the Emirates Stadium from Nigeria's Diamond Football Academy once he turns 18 in June.
Wenger is also understood to be close to adding Samuel Chukwueze, another Nigerian youngster, to his squad.
