Nigeria’s Super Eagles have opted to play Niger instead of the Black Stars of Ghana in September's FIFA international friendly date.
Reports in Nigeria last week had claimed that the NFF was in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to broker the international friendly in London.
It appears talks fell through which resulted in Nigeria opting to play Niger.
The Super Eagles are expected to play hosts to their Nigerien counterparts, the Mena, in an international friendly in Port Harcourt on September 8.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on its website that the proposed venue, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, for international friendly is still not concrete as it is “holding talks with the Rivers State government.”
“We are holding talks with the Rivers State Government, and the NFF is positive that the Super Eagles and Mena will play at the Amiesimaka Stadium on September 8.
“The truth is that we still have a few loose ends to tighten, before we can say that the match is sealed. Of course, we have confirmation from the Niger Football Federation that they have accepted to play the Super Eagles,” the NFF general secretary told thenff.com.
But the Niger FA, the Federation Nigerienne de Football, has already agreed to have the Mena play against the Super Eagles in the proposed warm-up game in a letter to the NFF.
Part of the letter from the Niger FA to the NFF read: “We write to confirm our participation on the said match in Port Harcourt on the 8th September and our collaboration with Mr. Jairo Pachon, FIFA Match Agent for the success of the organization.”
