New York City FC moved to within a point of the fifth place New York Red Bulls on Thursday with a 5-2 triumph over FC Cincinnati at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Héber scored twice for the hosts, and there were also goals for Alexandru Mitrita, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi and Maximiliano Morález as New York took an early lead and never allowed FC Cincinnati back into the contest.

Héber was also on the wrong score sheet as the Brazilian was one of two New York City FC players to score an own goal!

Moralez was pulling the strings all evening and the Argentinian provided the assist for Héber's second, into the correct net, which was the pick of the bunch.

New York are unbeaten in their last 10 games, winning five and drawing five since last losing to Toronto at the end of March.

There's very much a gulf being created between the top six in the Eastern Conference and the bottom six. The Philadelphia Union lead the East with the Montreal Impact, DC United, Atlanta United FC, the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC all within five points.

There's then a five point gap to Toronto FC, Orlando City SC and the Chicago Fire as those three along with the Columbus Crew SC and the New England Revolution fight for the remaining potential playoff place.

Only FC Cincinnati, not surprisingly for an expansion franchise, are out of touch as they prop up the Conference standings.

New York City FC are priced at 12/1 to win the MLS Cup with Los Angeles FC 9/4 and Atlanta United 9/1.
