Nigeria-eligible Chuba Akpom has described his heroic night in the Europa League as probably the best night in an Ajax shirt, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Akpom produced a sensational hattrick as Ajax came from behind to defeat Jagiellonia Bialystok 4-1 in Poland in the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie on Thursday night.
The former Arsenal player stated his delight scoring his first hattrick for Ajax after the match.
"It's amazing. I thank God, the fans, my teammates, the staff for the support and probably my best match in an Ajax shirt today so I'm happy."
He acknowledged it was a relief scoring the first goal as he was frustrated not scoring in the few games.
He disclosed that nevertheless has maintained a positive and persistent mindset to keep going.
Chuba Akpom becomes the fourth player to score three plus goals for Ajax in a European game this century, after Mohammed Kudus in 2023 who scored three, Sébastien Haller in 2021 with four goals and Luis Suárez in 2009 with four goals also.
