Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has not ruled out the possibility of out-of-contract Gary Mackay-Steven remaining at Pittodrie.

The 28-year-old former Dundee United and Celtic winger had been expected to leave the Dons this summer when his contract expires, with Portsmouth leading the race to snap him up.

However, McInnes has indicated that Mackay-Steven is still weighing up his options.

He said: "We've been speaking to Gary throughout the summer. If Gary turns around and says he really wants to be here when he weighs up all his options, then we will see how things develop.

"He has not closed the door on us and we have not closed the door on him.

"I've enjoyed working with Gary and I want to continue working with him. He's at an age where he wants to consider his options. He has told me (he) is definitely considering staying - but I need him to want to stay."

Meanwhile, McInnes has signed the former Kilmarnock midfielder Craig Bryson, who has spent the last eight years at Derby County.

"When you look at the out-of-contract list, there are not many better than Craig, if at all," added the Aberdeen boss. "We are absolutely delighted we have managed to secure that signature.

"He had a stronger offer to stay at Derby, he had a strong offer from elsewhere in the Championship, which indicates the level of player that we are getting."

McInnes has also signed Ash Taylor, Ryan Hedges and Curtis Main so far this summer.

Aberdeen are 7/1 to win the Scotland Premiership 2019/20 title without Celtic while Rangers can be backed at 1/10.
