Matvey Safonov reveals his preferred Ballon d’Or winner

Russia goalkeeper Matvey Safonov says he would like one of his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Ten of the 30 players shortlisted for the award represent Paris Saint-Germain, underlining the club’s strong presence among the nominees. Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele won the prize last year.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in London on 26 October. The event will also see the Lev Yashin Trophy awarded to the best goalkeeper of the year.

Safonov is among the nominees for that award.
