Manchester United could make a change in the manager’s position in the foreseeable future, with Eddie Howe reportedly a potential successor to Michael Carrick.

Howe left Newcastle unexpectedly in the summer, but the 48-year-old is understood to be open to considering an approach from Manchester United. However, the club may need to persuade him to return to management so soon after his departure from Newcastle.

According to Telegraph Sport, Howe left Newcastle with several years still remaining on his contract. The club is therefore believed to have included protective measures in the agreement in case he takes charge of another Premier League side in the coming months.

Manchester United could consequently be required to pay Newcastle compensation for Howe’s appointment. The figure is expected to reach £6m (€7.16m).
