Kano Pillars coach Ibrahim Musa will not be able to lead the Nigerian team in the 2020-21 CAF Confederation Cup, but says he remains committed to helping the club in their upcoming African adventure.
The Confederation of African Football has ruled that only coaches with a CAF ‘A’ license will be allowed to head up the technical team of any club in continental competition, which means Musa will be ruled out of this role for Pillars.
Incidentally, the same applies to Fatai Osho of Enyimba and Abdul Maikaba of Plateau United, Nigeria’s CAF Champions League representatives for 2020-21.
Kano Pillars have initiated a committee to hire a technical advisor with the requisite qualifications to lead them in the Confed Cup.
Musa told the Daily Trust that he is willing to work with whomever is hired by Sai Masu Gida, adding that his application to earn an ‘A’ license has been delayed by the Nigerian Football Federation since 2013.
“I want to put things in the right perspective. I am not against the decision by Pillars to hire a technical adviser. I am aware that the decision is necessitated by the directive from CAF,” explained Musa.
“However, the directive does not forbid someone with a CAF ‘B’ licence from serving as coach. So I am willing to work with anyone who will be appointed as technical adviser of Kano Pillars.
“I am always after the interest of the club. I want us to win laurels and anything that will make it possible, I will support it. So whoever is coming will enjoy my maximum co-operation,” he concluded.
