Julian Alvarez is considering ending his long-standing relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo after failing to leave Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Argentina striker reportedly wants a move away from the Spanish club and believes appointing new representatives could help him secure a transfer in 2027, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Alvarez surprised Atletico Madrid during the 2026 FIFA World Cup by making clear that he wanted to depart Madrid and join LaLiga rivals Barcelona. However, the club repeatedly stated that it had no intention of selling him to the defending Spanish champions.
The dispute between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona developed into an angry public exchange, with both clubs involved in a war of words over the proposed transfer. Alvarez ultimately remained with Atletico Madrid after a move failed to materialise.
Barcelona were told there was a “0% chance” of signing the Argentina international. Arsenal were subsequently linked with a possible offer, but no formal bid was made.
Alvarez was also unconvinced by the prospect of returning to the Premier League, meaning neither of the reported routes away from Atletico Madrid resulted in a transfer.
The 26-year-old has been represented by Hidalgo for his entire professional career. He is now rumoured to be in discussions with The Elegant Game, the agency founded by former player Javier Pastore.
The Elegant Game also represents Enzo Fernandez.
Atletico Madrid officials criticised Hidalgo’s conduct during the transfer saga, while Alvarez is understood to be unhappy with how the situation ended. Those tensions have raised the possibility of a change in representation as he looks for a fresh opportunity to leave the club in 2027.
