Crouch, a former Liverpool striker, praised Lookman for his outstanding performance in the UEFA Europa League final, where the forward scored a hat-trick to secure Atalanta's first major trophy in 62 years.

Reports had suggested Crouch criticised Lookman’s decision to play for Nigeria rather than his birth country, England.

Reacting to these claims on social media, the 43-year-old Crouch stated, “This is mad. I didn’t say this. Why would I? I said he’s been around various clubs, worked hard, and now he’s performing for Atalanta. Didn’t mention Nigeria once.”

Lookman, 26, was born in London, England to Nigerian parents featured for England Under-21 before he chose to represent Nigeria at international level.
