Jack Grealish has described Enzo Maresca as “an incredible coach” while speaking about the Manchester City manager. The England forward is currently playing for Everton on loan from Manchester City and offered his assessment of the head coach of the Premier League leaders.
Maresca was part of Josep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City from 2022 to 2023. Last summer, he took charge of the team as head coach, replacing Pep.
Grealish’s comments highlight his view of Maresca’s coaching ability as Manchester City have made a perfect start to the Premier League season. After three opening matches, the club sit at the top of the table with nine points.
The midfielder-turned-forward, who is spending the current period of his career at Everton on a temporary basis, shared his opinion on Maresca in the context of the Italian’s work at Manchester City. His description of the manager was clear and emphatic: “Maresca is an incredible coach.”
Maresca’s time within Guardiola’s staff ran from 2022 to 2023, before he later succeeded the former Manchester City manager at the club. That change took place last summer, when Maresca became the team’s head coach and replaced Pep.
Manchester City’s results at the start of the campaign have placed them first in the Premier League standings. Their record after three matches is three wins from three, giving them a total of nine points.
For Grealish, the comments come while he is away from Manchester City and representing Everton on loan. The forward remains a Manchester City player, but his current football is being played at Everton.
The central focus of his remarks was Maresca’s qualities as a coach. Grealish’s assessment came against the backdrop of the manager’s previous role on Guardiola’s staff and his subsequent appointment as Manchester City head coach.
With the first three rounds completed, Manchester City lead the Premier League with a maximum nine points. Maresca is now in charge of the side, having taken over from Pep last summer, while Grealish is continuing his season with Everton under a loan arrangement.
Maresca’s path from Guardiola’s coaching team to the Manchester City dugout provides the background to Grealish’s praise. He worked alongside Guardiola between 2022 and 2023 before being appointed to replace him last summer. The club have begun the new Premier League campaign with nine points from three matches, and Grealish has labelled the manager “an incredible coach”.
