Omonia Nicosia, the Cypriot club, is seeking to postpone the release of Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he's expected to join the Super Eagles squad, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Clubs are required to release invited players by January 1, and Uzoho is set to link up with his national teammates in Abu Dhabi on that same day.
Amidst a goalkeeping crisis, Omonia Nicosia wishes to retain Uzoho for their match against AEL on January 2, as their first-choice goalkeeper, Fabiano, is recovering from injury and won't return until the end of January.
Additionally, their other goalkeeper, Charalampos Kyriakidis, is also undergoing treatment.
