The Crystal Palace striker, who completed his loan spell with Royals after Saturday’s win at Derby, has now returned to Selhurst Park.

But the 24-year-old has not ruled out the prospect of pulling on the blue and white hoops again.

“You never know,” said Appiah, when asked if he will come back next season. “That door is hopefully open.

“It’s down to the gaffer (Steve Clarke) what squad he wants next season.

“If he does come forward for me then it’s down to Crystal Palace whether or not they let me do that. I’ve got another two years on my contract.

“But I will be happy to come back next season if that opportunity comes.”

Appiah failed to make much of an impact during his short stay at Madejski Stadium, with four of his six appearances coming from the bench.

But on Saturday he was given a chance from the start against Derby and he marked it with a goal inside the opening two minutes.

“It was nice to get my first goal,” he said.

“It was a tough spell on loan, but I got my first win on the final day of the season.

“I was treated fairly while I was there. I can’t complain about that at all.

“The gaffer was brilliant with me. He’s a top coach and a top manager.”
