Ghanaian defender Baba Rahman, who was signed by German Bundesliga side Augsburg last summer, has generated a considerable amount of interest from several of Europe's top teams.

Three Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly very interested in the left back.

However, all clubs involved have been told that the top prospect is valued at around £14 million. This is quite a considerable amount for a relatively unknown player.

SO WHO IS RAHMAN?

At 21-years-old, Rahman is a Ghanaian senior international and he signed for Bundesliga side Augsburg last season from Greuther Fürth.

But the young starlet has become subject to inquiries from not only the mentioned Premier League clubs, but also from Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Augsburg finished in the highest position in the club's history last season placing fifth and Rahman was seen as a key component to that side. The defender also captained his country to third place at the Under-20 World Cup in the summer of 2013.

However, according to the Guardian the young left back is keen on a move to England should the opportunity arise. It is understood that Chelsea are extremely interested in acquiring his services and have contacted Rahman's representatives to discuss a move.

Similarly Manchester City and Arsenal have expressed their interest. City it would seem are most in need of a new left back as neither Gael Clichy or Alexander Kolarov have been able to hold down a starting place in the City first team.

With Chelsea in pole position to sign him, it will put pressure on Cesar Azpilicueta and Filipe Luis, who arguably were two of the top defenders in the Premier League last season. Rahman was a crucial part of the fifth place finish for Augsburg where his offensive style of play excelled - he provided four assists last season.

Rahman's status was risen even more so when he was praised by Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso.

According to Alonso: "[Rahman] looks like he has the ability to become a top left-back and might even be better suited as a left-wing back."

This is high praise from the Champions League and World Cup winner and will do no harm in promoting Rahman's talents.

If Chelsea were to sign him, as seems the most likely case, it could be problematic for the youngster as he has two excellent left backs in front of him.

Jose Mourinho is not known for playing youngsters in his first team, which was proven last season when he did not give many opportunities to some of his top young talent. It would be a shame to see the talented Rahman sign for Chelsea and sit on the bench when arguably he could be extremely effective in the Premier League.

His attributes suit the League perfectly and he could potentially become a world class player if given the time on the pitch.

Jose Mourinho's style of play for Chelsea could prevent fans from seeing the best of the young exciting talent.
