Captain Asamoah Gyan must pass a late fitness test so he could be named in Ghana’s squad to face Senegal in their Nations Cup opener on Monday.
Head coach Avram Grant confirmed the lead striker did not train with the team on Sunday due to mild malaria.
The Black Stars held their first official training at the Mongomo Stadium but the Al Ain forward sat out the exercise.
Grant said at a pre-match conference: "We will have to wait until tomorrow to see if Gyan can make the game.
"He is a very important player for us, with everything he has done for the Black Stars, so of course we would like him to play.
"If it is not the case it will be a little bit harder for us but we will our best without him."
If Gyan fails to recover, Grant must decide on whether to alter his game plan or stick to the 3-5-2 and look to his options- David Accam, Kwesi Appiah and Mahatma Otoo-to see who partners Jordan Ayew.
