Ghana FA ready to return remaining World Cup prize money if government requests- Nyantakyi

The Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed the federation is ready to pay the remaining World Cup prize money into the state’s offers if ordered by government.

Two months ago, the Ghana FA was instructed by the World Cup Commission of Inquiry to return the remaining US$ 3 million but association wrote back to say No.

Ghana accrued about US$ 7 million from FIFA for reaching the finals in Brazil and had to repay a loan of US$ 4 million it took from government to pay striking players at the tournament.

The GFA claimed its contract with the Sports Ministry mandated them to pay the loan and not the bulk sum received from FIFA as they have targeted to use some of the money for legacy projects.

But Nyantakyi has revealed they are ready to comply with the directive comes from government.

“We (the GFA) are only acting based on our initial agreement with government. If they wanted to change the agreement, they should tell us and explain the new position to us. If government tells us to bring the $3.1 million, I will return it just as we did in 2010,” Nyantakyi told Asempa FM.
