Reportedly, tensions arose between Finidi and Ademola Lookman and Sadiq Umar during the team's friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.

Lookman appeared as a substitute in both matches, questioning Finidi’s invitation after limited playing time.

The former Enyimba coach however, has emphasized that he maintains a harmonious rapport with all his players.

Speaking at his unveiling ceremony, Finidi stated, "I have been with the team for 20 months; I have always had a cordial relationship with all the players as an assistant coach. I am still the same person even as head coach now, only that the title has changed."

He further added, "There will be no controversy regarding relationships with the players. These are professional players and we have to give them what they’re used to in Europe; you don’t need to slap anybody for not doing your job."
