Akwa United manager, Deji Ayeni has warned his side against complacency as the Uyo outfit look to win third Federation Cup title in eight years, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Promise Keepers will begin their campaign in this year’s competition with a Round of 64 fixture against Wikki Tourists at the INEC Stadium, Enugu and the coach is expected to select a strong side for the game.
Speaking before the game Ayeni was quick to lower expectations on his team while he reminds media of the competitive nature of the tournament.
“The FA Cup is a knockout competition and we are familiar with it. The competition is the easiest and simplest way to win a national trophy and qualify to play in the continent but it’s always full of upsets, “Ayeni told the club’s media.
“So we have to be on top of our game in every match and ensure we don’t give room for unnecessary distractions.”
Akwa United won Nigeria’s oldest club competition in 2015 and 2017.
