It’s quiet amazing our infatuation with everything Black Stars. These past few days really goes to show just how much. Looks like any news about them gets us all giddy with excitement.
Its just some few days to the start of our delayed league yet no radio station is talking about it. Some even dedicate three hours of airtime everyday since last week to talk about the Stars preparation in Spain. It’s not as if there is something new coming from camp that needs to be shared with fans.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying forget about the AFCON, No, afterall it’s the biggest showpiece on the continent but not at the expense of our already faltering league. We need to put in more effort as no one from outside will come do that for us.
I remember the day Akwasi Appiah was reported sacked as Blackstars coach, around that same time, King Faisal put an injunction on congress, the highest decision making body of our football. This in-turn put a halt to football made in GH yet everyones focus was on the backstars issue forgetting the impact this injunction was gonna have on local football.
Even on congress grounds that day, media personnel had the chance to ask questions in relations to activities that did not take place rather they chose to ask questions about the coach. After almost 2 months of inactivity, the media then realised the impact the court case was having.
Granted, that was the big story at that moment so you would expect it to overshadow everything else but not for a week and over. It was still been discussed over the airwaves for months, as if it just happened. Really?
We always accuse the Ghana football association as been Blackstars focused and I used to be one of the accusers. Yes, USED TO cause now I understand why they do what they do. Afterall we will rather fight over Blackstars bones than go for the juicy premier league meat been offered. Maybe we see the players in the National team as bigger than the local players.
We are been given a choice of either waakye or rice and beans, we always go for waakye yet complain that we only get Waakye. Lets change the focus of Ghana Football by changing the agenda for discussion.
Do you agree with the writer? Is there a lot of focus on the Black Stars at the expense of the local game? How can this be improved? Share your thoughts with us?
