Despite suffering defeat in the final of the NPFL Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, Coach Finidi George has praised his Enyimba player's attitude.
Goals from Fatai Abdullahi and Eze Ekwutoziam were not enough as Enyimba succumbed to a 3-2 loss in the final to Shooting Stars and the former Super Eagles star insisted that the tournament served as a learning curve for his team.
“It’s quite a painful loss for the boys but we must commend them. Playing football every day is not easy. It’s a lesson for them. They would learn,” Finidi told pressmen while reflecting on the final defeat.
“It’s not easy to lose a final but with a little bit of aggression in their goals. The team did well in terms of play, controlled the game a moment but we had to be a little bit aggressive sometimes when we lose the ball and we paid for it.”
The former Super Eagles player asserted that the team will learn from the defeat to be a better side when the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season kicks off.
“It’s annoying but we have to work on little things and make sure that whenever we get into the same situations like this, we would play better,” he added.
Meanwhile, Enyimba forward, Chijioke Mbaoma claimed the highest goal scorer award at the NPFL Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup.
Four NPFL teams participated at the tournament; Shooting Stars Sports Club, Enyimba International Football Club, Bendel Insurance, and Rangers International Football Club.
