Former Nigerian international, Friday Elahor, has called on the Super Eagles to maintain focus and not fall into the trap of complacency ahead of their crucial AFCON qualifier against Benin, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
Despite needing only a point to seal their spot for the 2025 tournament in Morocco, Elahor stressed that the team must approach the game with the utmost seriousness.
He highlighted the risk of underestimating their opponents, recalling the surprising result from the World Cup qualifiers, where Benin managed a victory over Nigeria.
In his remarks on Brila FM’s “No Holds Barred” with Ifeanyi Udeze, Elahor stated: “If we are serious, we will beat them. We shouldn’t go in thinking we’ve already qualified. No, if we do that, they’ll beat us. On paper, we’re better than them so if we are serious we will beat them.”
He continued, “If we talk about players, we have good players more than them. Anytime any day Super Eagles will beat Benin.” He concluded, “It’s a neutral ground and we have the players who can do the job but with seriousness.”
The Super Eagles will face Benin on November 14 at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, before returning home to play Rwanda on November 18 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
