Hearts beat Kotoko 3-0 in the second round of the Ghana Premier League on the 21st July, 2002 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In a 10-minute blitz, the Phobians tore apart their sorry guests by pumping three goals down their throats in the closing stage of the first half.

Charles Taylor set the ball rolling, latching on an inviting pass from Dong Bortey, and without breaking stride, connecting the ball home with his first strike.

The creator turned goal-scorer a couple of minutes later after a breathless counter attack. Bernard Dong Bortey raced into the box from the left side of attack before checking his run and shifting the ball to his right foot. His marker had been sold a dummy with the change in direction, and Bortey curled the ball into the top corner from an acute angle to beat George Owu. Sheer audacious artistry from the "serial killer" or later "humble lion"

It got worst for the Porcupines when Emmanuel Osei Kuffour hammered home the third courtesy of a wicked deflection in the box to send the stadium into total delirium in less than 45 minutes of the first half.

The Phobians took their foot off the gas in the second half and coasted to a 3-0 win over Kotoko - the victory remains the highest win margin in the history of the rivalry in the 21st century.

Hearts were undone by poor officiating in Kumasi where they were denied all the three points by a late and contentious penalty. Dong Bortey was marked to be the hero of the day but Godwin Ablordey netted from the spot after Joe Louis had shamelessly dived into a Hearts defender in injury time.

Ah well, justice was restored when Hearts hit Kotoko for three a month later.
