Rivers United appeared on course for a historic victory after leading for most of the encounter, only to concede twice in stoppage time as defensive lapses proved costly.

The hosts took the lead in the 37th minute, scoring their first-ever goal in the CAF Champions League group stage—though it came through an own goal. Mamadou Lamine Camara inadvertently turned the ball into his net after Ubong Friday’s effort forced pressure inside the box.

Rivers United defended their advantage deep into the match, but RS Berkane struck late in dramatic fashion.

Youness El Kaabi levelled the score in the 90+6 minute, punishing a moment of hesitation in the Rivers United backline. Just a minute later, Mounir Chouiar completed the comeback with a composed finish, sealing a 2–1 victory for the North African giants.

The heartbreaking defeat leaves Rivers United with two losses after two matches, while Berkane stay top of the standings with two wins in two.
