Nigerian champions Edo Queens made a resounding start to their CAF Women's Champions League WAFU B qualifying campaign, thrashing AS GNN 5-0 in their Group B opener on Sunday as expected of them after being tipped for an historic showdown, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Highly motivated financially by the state government before taking off in Nigeria, Moses Aduku's side are pushing for an historic finish as bid to better late Domo Okara's third place finish on the continent with Bayelsa Queens remains a high possibility.

Despite early pressure from Edo Queens, AS GNN goalkeeper Safiatu Salifu produced several impressive saves to keep the scoreline level but it was all just a matter of time before the goal floodgates would open.

However, the deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when player of the NWFL season Emem Essien finished off a well-worked team move. Captain Suliat Abideen doubled the lead just before halftime from the penalty spot. In the second half, Blessing Ilivieda, Esther Moses, and Joy Jerry added their names to the scoresheet to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Hasaacas Ladies and A.O Etincelle played out a goalless draw in the other Group B match.

Edo Queens currently top the group with three points, while Hasaacas Ladies and A.O Etincelle share a point each. AS GNN are at the bottom without any points.
