The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has refuted reports suggesting that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been postponed to early 2026. Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The tournament is set to take place in Morocco as scheduled.
Speculation arose about a potential delay due to a clash with the FIFA Club World Cup, which is scheduled from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.
CAF clarified its position, stating it has not yet decided on the dates for AFCON 2025.
"Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue. The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate, and make a decision on the AFCON 2025 dates. CAF will thereafter issue an official statement on the matter," read a statement on CAF's X platform.
Recall the 2023 AFCON finals, delayed from its original schedule, took place early 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles finished second.
